PUY-EN VELAY, FRANCE - A baby woolly mammoth, one of the oldest intact mammoths every found, is now on display in a French museum.
Baby Khroma, as the mammoth has been named, had spent tens of thousands of years under the Siberian frost and now is taking a summer break in the southeast of France. Baby Khroma is 80-centimeter-high, 1.6-meter-long (1-foot-high, 5-foot-long) prehistoric mammal may be the oldest baby mammoth ever discovered. Carbon dating methods failed to determine its age, suggesting it is more than 50,000 years old, said French researchers and Sergei Gorbunov, project coordinator for the Geneva-based International Mammoth Committee. Russian news reports have said it is 32,000 years old.
The mammoth is Khroma is on display at the Musee Crozatier in Puy-en-Velay in a special cryogenic chamber kept at -18 degrees C (-0.40 Fahrenheit).
Such mammoths offer scientists the opportunity to do analysis that they cannot carry out on skeletons, such as studying stomach contents and fur. Putting them on display gives a broader public a tangible link to the prehistoric past. Baby Khroma was dug out last year from the Yakutia region in Siberia and was brought to France as part of a Franco-Russian cross-cultural event.
The mammoth was delayed by three weeks after concerns surfaced about the transfer of an animal that might contain lethal bacteria. Russia’s chief epidemiologist, Gennady Onishchenko, said the mammoth died of anthrax, according to Russian news reports. Russian scientists carried out further study of the risks involved, and the trip was given the go-ahead, Gorbunov said.
After arriving in France, Khroma went to a special conservation facility in Grenoble, where it underwent gamma ray treatment for eliminating any potentially lethal bacteria. The presence of anthrax could not be confirmed from the first studies, but the treatment was used as a precaution, said the museum’s paleontologist, Frederic Lacombat. “It will undergo further isotope analysis in France to try to pin down its age – and its gender, up to now unclear.”
“It’s a unique discovery,” Gorbunov told The Associated Press by telephone. “Any discovery of a new mammoth gives us new scientific information about prehistory.”
Similar enthusiasm was felt six months ago in the United States when a 42,000-year-old baby woolly mammoth named Lyuba arrived at the Field Museum in Chicago, where it is still on display. The practically intact specimen, discovered in 2007 in Siberia as well, is the best-preserved of her kind, according to researchers.

RUNAWAY BAY, TX – A man in Texas found what he believes to be a chupacabra on a golf course!
Tony Potter was on the Runaway Bay golf course when he noticed something lying near hole 14. Upon closer inspection, it was a dead, unknown creature!

It is a brown, hairless animal with inch-long toes, curved claws, long hind legs and oversize canine teeth.
“This is a weird little critter,” Potter said. “This is not a coyote. This is not a dog.”
It has none of the accompanying lesions that occur with mange, the usual explanation for debunking chupacabra findings. Unsure of what it was, he took it to a veterinarian, who also was unable to identify it.
Chupacabra sightings generally occur in the States in Texas. Potter believes this specimen is a juvenile male.

PLUM ISLAND, NY – A human body has washed up on Plum Island, which houses the government’s secret lab for diseases!
Police have stated that the body of a white male was found Thursday afternoon on the southwest beach of the island. The clothed body, found by a security guard, was of a partially decomposed 6 foot tall man, with a large build and very long fingers.
Police also said there were no obvious fatal injuries.
The island hosts the Plum Island Animal Disease Center, which is at the center of a number of conspiracy theories. The official goal of the center is to study and protect America’s livestock from certain diseases, however it has been revealed that during the Cold War, a secret biological weapons program was tested there.

The island has most recently been in the news as the potential origins of the Montauk Monster, a mysterious creature that washed ashore in Montauk, Long Island. A second bizarre creature washed ashore in Long Island last year, also very close to Plum Island.
While authorities have not made any connection between the man’s death and the suspicious nature of the island, conspiracy theorists have already begun questioning the nature of his death.

NEW YORK, NY – A new trend has begun in the prison system, with inmates tattooing the whites of their eyeballs!
Prisoners have discovered a way to create colored ink and tattoo the whites of their eyes! They remain mum on the procedure, although workshift tattoo needles in prisons is nothing new.
Some states are attempting to ban the procedure, as the risks involved can lead to permanent blindness. However, it is unlikely this will put a halt to the trend in prisons.
Take a look below at two inmates who explain why they had it done:

LAWNDALE, CA – A California city is considering removing the local garlic plants, but one councilman is firmly against it.
Lawndale, Cali. spent millions of dollars about eight years ago to redevelop the main boulevard area. This included flying in and planting garlic plants, to line the block of 147th Street and Hawthorne Boulevard.
Why the city council picked such an odd plant is unclear. But now, city residents are sick of the disgusting smell and want them removed, at a cost of $35,000.
However, city councilman Jim Ramsey has a very good argument for keeping the plants.
Watch below to hear his case:

KEENE, NH – A man who dressed up as Bigfoot for an art performance was kicked out of a state park!
Jonathan Doyle is a local New Hampshire artist and videographer. He, along with some other participants, dressed up as the creature Bigfoot for an art project in Monadnock State Park.
Doyle has since filed an official complaint with the state parks department after a park ranger expelled him and his group from the park! The ranger said they did not have a permit for such activities.
Doyle has joined forces with the New Hampshire Civil Liberties Union Foundation to claim a violation of his free-speech rights. The artist claims they were on a lesser-used trail and weren’t bothering other park visitors in any way.
The Division of Parks and Recreation have yet to respond.

BEIJING – A Chinese man who teaches monkeys martial arts for entertainment was taught his own lesson!
Lo Wung works in Enshi, in the Hubei province in China. He trains a set of moneys in taekwando, to entertain shoppers outside a shopping center.
However, one passerby happened to have his camera ready when the monkeys turned on Wung!

Said Hu Luang, “I saw one punch him in the eye – he grabbed another by the ear and it responded by grabbing his nose.
“They were leaping and jumping all over the place – it was better than a Bruce Lee film.”
After swarming Wung, one of the monkeys even grabbed a stick and whacked Wung on the head with it!
Wung finally got the monkeys under control by throwing rope around them. Said Luang, “He was really furious, he made the monkeys kneel on the ground with their hands tied behind their backs to punish them and make them show remorse for their nasty attack.”
